It's To Late Guys

Just another superstar who ending his career ugly, Brett Favre is now enshrined into this category. Making his tearful good bye a year ago, I had a lot of respect for Brett Favre. He walked away at a time when he worked so hard to get his team into position to win, only to come up one game short. I sat there and applauded Favre for this and thought he would walk into the sunset. Wow was I wrong, a full year, a different jersey, and 22 interceptions later Brett walks away again. He now joins a group of elites such as Joe Namath, Michael Jordan, Franco Harris, Guy LaFleur, the list goes on of players who stuck around in their sports far to long. It was hard to see Brett struggle at times this season, just as hard as it was to see Air Jordan flank on a Dunk. I look back now at some of the players I thought left to early. Players like Barry Sanders, Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Reggie Miller, Allen Houston, to name a few. I now think maybe these guys did it right, granted some were due to injury, the thing is we will remember these guys at their high points not their lows. Barry Sanders could’ve run through the world and been in the league at the least 5 more years. Reggie Miller is still in shape today to be dropping threes. These guys know that people respect them and show them love for knowing they were top performers. I am sure Brett Favre will get his remembrance, he was a phenomenal quarterback. But I would’ve just like to see him take that last step away from the microphone with Green Bay green and yellow in the background last season then see him walk away like this.

Overtime is Overrated?

The sports world hasn't changed much from my last post. We know a few things since then: The Big Ten is a terrible bowl conference; The Mountain West is for real (Utah for #1); The Bills have some work do to; and The Boston Celtics are humans (losing 6 of last 8). There have been a few controversies coming out of this past weekends wild card playoff games. The most obvious is the argument about Overtime. A number of articles were written early this week about how the NFL should review and revise the Overtime format. Now after watching the game Saturday Night, I was thrilled with the excitement. Much of the argument lies within people complaining that Peyton Manning (the "face" of the NFL) never got his chance on the field in overtime. Other writers brought up the idea that what if Lebron James couldn't be on the floor in an NBA overtime or the Yankees didn't get an at bat in extra innings at home. Oh I'm sorry football is a team sport with Offense and Defense. I agree with John Madden, he likes the format as is. Remember Mr. Hasselback in overtime in Green Bay, "We want the ball, we're gonna win" statement. Next thing you know he throws a pick and Green Bay beats Seattle. Brett Favre never saw the field that overtime. It is sudden death for a reason, if you lose the coin toss, Step It Up and stop the offense.

Skiman Squibs:

Jeff Jagodzinski interviewed for the Jets job and then was fired by Boston College for going to the interview. The majority of commentators I hear are applauding this act by Boston College. Clearly Boston College just wasn't pleased with Jeff in the first place and used this as an excuse.

Mats Sundin made his return last night to the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks. As a long time fan of Sundin with the Leafs, I wish him luck.

Tonight is the BCS National Championship game. I hope this game is a high scoring close game. A blow out will just put more problems into a flawed BCS system.

Jarko Ruttu bit Andrew Peters in Tuesday's Sabres/Senators game. He bit his thumb!! Yea it's good to see the NHL suspended this bum for 2 games and it was hilarious to see the look as Peters got a penalty on the play.

Lastly Matt Millen was showcased on NBC's Football Night in America on Saturday. Much of the outcry is from Detroit, which basically wants this mans blood for "running" them into the ground in his 8 years as an executive. Now Matt Millen has great knowledge of football and is a good analyst but I think he should've taken some time away from football before going back to the booth. It's far to soon for Lions fans to see this man once a week again.

January 2006: When The Bills Ask For This

Going 1-7 in his last eight games got Dick Jauron his contract extension through 2011. I could not be more upset as a Bills fan. Dick Jauron has never had major success as a Head Coach, as noted by his career 56-74 record. The Bills fumbled the ball back in January 2006 when they hired Dick Jauron. The real man for the job never got the chance he should've. Mike Sherman had recently been fired by Green Bay (Jan 2, 2006) and with his supurb 57-39 record over 5 seasons should've been our next head coach. Dick Jauron has never been able to light a fire under his players and motivate them into a playoff caliber team and this is evidence of this season. His lackluster approach on the field and poor playcalling have cost the Bills. Three consecutive runs with Jackson at the goaline, Calling short routes on 3rd and sixes, and lastly calling for a pass under two minutes with the lead after the Bills were running all over the Jets!!!! EVERY BUFFALO FAN COULD FORESEE WHAT HAPPENED SUNDAY WHEN JP DROPPED BACK TO PASS!!!!

Now that Dick is back, I plead for him to go out and get an Offensive Coordinator with some Sense!!! Bon Voyage Turk
